treeMany Branches On A Single Tree

All technology is related.  Today, the database has moved to the web, the web has moved to the phone, and the desktop has moved to the cloud.  You need a partner who understands the interconnected nature of today's technologies.

Information Technology Solutions

Did You Know?

Mr. IT, our IT business in 2009-2010

In 2009-2010, SynaTree conducted our IT business under the name Mr. IT, in partnership with the Palace Business Centres.

Networks, Servers, and Firewalls

We have years of experience in network administration, from supporting Windows Server, RedHat, Gentoo, and other flavors of Linux; to physical networking and premise cabling; to switches, routers, and firewalls.

Remember how we say that all technology are branches of a single tree?  Well, by that analogy, IT work is the root of all technology.  As a result, SynaTree is familiar with a wide range of systems and is ready to support your technology infrastructure using the same "holistic" approach we utilize in our other service areas.

Your Linux Partner

We are very well versed in Microsoft Windows operating systems, software, and all of the issues that can arise in those environments; but there are a lot of larger IT companies out there that can do Windows, too.  Where we stand out is our commitment to and long familiarity with a variety of Linux flavors, including CentOS, RedHat, Gentoo, Ubuntu, and Irix.  We have supported a range of applications and services on Linux, including:

  • IPTables Firewall
  • TC Traffic Control
  • Apache
  • PHP CLI and mod_php under apache
  • MySQL Server
  • Squid
  • Amanda
  • Rsync
  • ImageMagick
  • KDE
  • Gnome
  • Ruby / Rails
  • Lighttpd
  • Webmin
  • eGroupWare
  • OpenLDAP / slapd
  • Tomcat
  • Headless OpenOffice.org
  • DNSMasq
  • TFTPd
  • OpenSSH
  • OpenSSL
  • OpenVPN

Whenever you need to interface with Linux, or interface with servers in general, SynaTree is ready and able to help.

Networking Meets the Internet Age

Networking used to mean running wires to the switch in the back office.  Ah, the good old days.  Today, as workers become decentralized and more and more people are working from home, the networking didn't go away; it got more complicated.  SynaTree's unique background of internet services and networking make us the ideal partner for figuring out how to get all of your network assets to work with all of your staff, whether they are in your physical office or out on the road.

  • Remote Desktop / Terminal Services
  • Cloud Storage and Backup
  • Dynamic VPN
  • Printing

All of the above can be an important part of your mobile networking solution, but there are a lot of solutions out there and choosing the right one isn't always easy.  SynaTree uses a variety of different techniques to bring workgroups together, wherever they may be.  The solution we design for you might include Google Apps (Calendar, Docs, and Talk are excellent groupware), LogMeIn Hamachi, Alfresco ECM, OpenVPN, ZManda or one of dozens of other platforms, applications, and providers we work with.

Hardware and Software Sourcing

We have excellent relationships with long-time suppliers of IT equipment and software.  Put our connections to work to get your next server, laptop, workstation, or software upgrade.  Our suppliers can get most items cheaper and much faster than by purchasing online.

We worked with online vendors like TigerDirect and CDW for years before we finally found our local vendor, and we will never go back!

Firewall and Security

We've advised companies large and small about security over the years, and we've built quite a few firewalls.  Our favorite technologies include:

  • SmoothWall
  • SonicWall
  • IPTables
  • Cisco IOS
For enterprise clients, we offer a quarterly security review that takes into account not only firewalls and networking, but also workstation security, physical security, and backup resiliency, among other factors.  Our quarterly review generates a document that planners can use to evaluate risk and set goals for future improvement.  The security standards we help our client's set have helped them pass SEC audits and other stringent security tests.

Getting Your Printer To Work

It may sound odd, but one of the toughest challenges we've encountered in the small office environment are problems with printers.  Unforunately, most offices have printers that are more suited for residential use or very small workgroups.  If you have a Multifunction device that nobody can seem to get working, give us a call.  We have a lot of experience working through crazy printer problems and we can tell you right off the bat if you should consider buying a different printer or spend the time to figure out how to make it work in your environment.
